Bodyguard rules box-office. What about audience’s hearts?

I have been making a note of people’s reactions on Salman Khan’s movie Bodyguard. From all the responses, apart from one person, almost all others have thrashed the movie. Even on the net, I have seen terribly unsatisfactory comments on the film with some even terming it as unbearable and difficult to sit through.

However, despite this, the film has created history at the box-office by earning over Rs 20 crore on the opening day itself. Just imagine – on one hand, the audience is left unsatisfactory and on the other, the film has gained the biggest box-office opening ever in the history of Bollywood! If there is one thing which is unfair, it’s this!

Like I said in one of my previous posts here, it has become an easy recipe to cook a box-office hit. Just sign a big star like Salman, make an interesting promo, include songs at regular intervals and you get your box-office hit! You have created enough hype and booked almost ever theatre in the country. Naturally audience will flock the halls to see the movie once. Hence, you earn mammoth profit. But can you call this real success if the film fails to impress the audience?

But Bodyguard isn’t the only instance. There have been numerous movies in the past which have rocked the box-office but failed to satisfy majority of viewers. As veteran filmmaker Sudhir Mishra rightly pointed out, producers are only thinking about the profit in the first weekend.

In this race to earn big monies in the initial weekend, we have stopped making movies which have superlative content, movies which bring a smile on your face even years after its release!

This is where I consider Marathi cinema much ahead than today’s Hindi films. A super-hit Marathi film will surely satisfy a large majority of its viewers. Their biggest advantage is that the story or the script is considered way bigger than the cast. If a Marathi film is rich in story, it will surely draw crowds irrespective whether it has a known face. Sadly, this hardly happens in Bollywood.

These big and rich Bollywood producers should ask themselves whether their aim is only to earn big bucks or make quality cinema. Their answer will determine the future of Bollywood!

  3. The original Malayalam version of Bodyguard had Dileep, as an idiot with no idea what is happening around him, faking to be a bodyguard to Nayanthara. The audience enjoyed the self deprecating humor. When made in Tamil, the idiocy of the hero was toned down to accommodate Vijay and in Hindi, if promo and reviews are to be believed, the hero is a proper Hero with a capital H. only good thing about original version was idiocy of the hero which was lacking in other languages.

I don’t know why they should do an atrocracy like this.

  4. I DON’T KNOW UR NAME WHO MAKE THIS POST.IN THIS WORLD THERE ARE LOT OF PEOPLE….ALL HAVE DIFFERENT THINKING.NOW YOU TELL ME ARE EVERYONE WANT TO SEE COMEDY MOVIE OR FIGHTING MOVIE OR MIXED MOVIE OR A MOVIE WHICH SENDING A GOOD MESSAGE.NO.EVERYONE HAVE SOME DIFFERENT FLAVOUR.

…AS YOUR POINT OF VIEW JUST IMAGINE ONLY BUILD SUCH MOVIE THAT HAS SOME HISTORIC MESSAGE…………IT IS NOT POSSIBLE DEAR.FILMS ARE REALISTIC AND AS WELL AS FILMY……..SO ONE POINT IS CLEAR THAT EVERY TYPE OF MOVIE WILL BUILD IN BOLLYWOOD.

TALKING ABOUT BODYGUARD MOVIE:-ACCORDING TO YOU MOVIE HAS NO STORY.NO ACTING,NO SCRIPTING
ACCORDING TO ME:-YES YOU RAE RIGHT.BUT WHAT ABOUT 1)-SALMAN KHAN SWEET AND INNOCENCE NATURE IN THIS FILM 2:-ACTING OF SONAMI SINGH(…OUT OF WORLD) 3:-TARE MARE SONG LYRICS……SO IF I HATE THIS MOVIE I HAVE A LOT OF POINT TO SAY AS WELL AS IF I LOVE THIS MOVIE I HAVE ALSO SOME POINT TO SAY….

SO WHO DECIDE PICTURE IS GOOD OR BAD ….YOU OR ME.SO PLEASE STOP UR COMMENT ON MOVIES BECAUSE EVERYONE HAVE DIFFERENT FLAVOR…….

NOW I WILL SHOW YOU SOME MOVIES WHICH HAS A HISTORIC MESSAGE
    1-“3-IDIOTS”:-COLLEGE LIFE—-300 CAR RE
    2:-MOTHER INDIA :-RESPECT WOMAN

NOW I WILL SHOW SOME MOVIES WHICH HAS A NO MESSAGE
    1:-DABANGG-CORREPT POLICE OFFICER-190 CARORE
    2:-RAB NA BANDI JODI:-89 CARORE

IF U SAW ABOVE FIGHURE THAN U ANALYSIS THAT IN THIS WORLD ALL TYPE OF MOVIES BECAME SUPERHIT WHICH AUDIENCE LIKE.LIKE AS MOTHERINDIA AND AS WELL AS DABANGG.

WHAT IS YOUR THINKING …WHAT IS MY THINKING…WHAT ELSE THINKING……ALL ARE DIFFERENT.

MY THINKING:-I AM A SOFTWARE ENGINEER.IN WEEK DAYS I WANT A FILM WHICH HAS THE CAPABILITY OF TOTAL ENTERTAINER.AND SALMAN MOVIE IS FULL OF ENTERTAINMENT.BESIDE THIS I AM ALSO ATTRACT WITH SALMAN HELPING NATURE,HIS SIMPLE ATTITUDE IN REEL AND IN EAL LIFE,…AND THE BEST THING SALMAN KHAN IS NOT A DIPLOMATIC PERSON………….

LETS UNDERSTAND BY A SIMPLE EXAMPLE:-
A SONG WORDING IS “ZINDGI PYAR KA GEET HAI,YA HAR DIL KO GANA PARAGA”;IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG.I THINK U LIKE IT.BUT I DONOT LIKE YAR BZE MY HEART SAY NO TO THIS SONG.SO THIS IS A GOOD SONG FOR U NOT FOR ME…

A SONG WORDING “DANCE PA CHANCE MARLA”:-THIS SONG TOUCHES TO MY HEART.SO FOR ME THIS SONG IS BEST.

“WHAT IS TRUE AND WHAT IS FALSE …..WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG….WHO WILL GIVE THIS ANSERS …..NEITHER U NOR ME AND EVEN I DONOT KNOW WHAT IS ACTUALLY RIGHT OR WRONG”

a good reply , i didnt like bodyguard , but tht doesnt mean its UNFAIR tht they have created box office records , cause lots of people loved the movie in equal measure , i cant decide which movie is good or bad for everyone , i can just decide for me , i may have different tastes , others will have different , N also movie making is not just abt giving a social message , or it having a strong script , its also abt entertaining people n people love diff times of entertainment , n n plus The Writer states such movies dont satisfy majority of people , thts a very immature statement , cause me a guy sitting in mumbai , will never have an idea wat a person sitting in kanpur will like or dislike , thus how is the writer or me suppose to know whether this movie satisfied majority of people or no , do we get to into minds of millions of people who watched this movie? it may dissatisfy us n our circle of frds , colleagues , but it may equally satisfy a different set of people ,
PLUS the writer states tht future of bollywood depends on whether bollywood producers go for superlative content or just making money , thts rubbish , n i m sorry to to say but thts a very speculative statement , again thats the writers opinion but a speculative one .
      Finally i have read other articles of this writer , he seems a decent writer to me , But its when writer s make sweeping statements like { “Just imagine – on one hand, the audience is left unsatisfactory and on the other, the film has gained the biggest box-office opening ever in the history of Bollywood! If there is one thing which is unfair, it’s this!” }
it concerns me , how can someone by talking to handful of people or say 1000 people can decide whether the audience has been left unsatisfactory or satisfactory n plus most of the people who have supposed to like the movie cant even access internet n stuff to comment on such blogs , so without getting the pulse of all kinds of audiences , u shoudnt be commenting something like tht , obv u can write ” the movie is crap , acting is bad , stupid stuff etc etc ” , but u should be checking ur other comments , n tht unfair comment was particularly Stupid , u may hate the movie , but who said only such movies which has superlative content or which cater to ur tastes or which star ur fav hero have to be a huge hit , any movie has a right to be a hit , cause a certain section has to like it , , N Bodyguard wont bring a smile to ur face after yrs later , but it may bring smiles to some other people
